Lunar Adventures: exploring a little bit of everything

Blog post [Displaying post and comments]

Impressed by Yahoo! Publisher Network

As you may or may not have noticed, I’ve switched from Google Adsense ads to Yahoo! Publisher Network ads (and have added an ad under the first story on the front blog page).

I was accepted into the Yahoo! Publisher Network beta program a couple of weeks ago and have been quite pleased with my experience so far. I was surprised earlier today when I got a phone call from a Yahoo! representative, asking me for any comments I might have or any issues that need resolving. The landing page for the administration panel repeatedly asks for comments and suggestions, but Yahoo! must be serious about wanting to get feedback to go to the effort of calling the beta testers.

I commented on a couple of small issues that are easily written off as “beta bumps and bruises” and made some suggestions, such as more ad block size options and other visual customization options.

Performance-wise, I’m getting similar CPC results on Yahoo! as I did on Google. All things being equal, I’m likely to stay with Yahoo!. Competition can only be good (until the market is overly saturated, and I don’t feel the contextual ad placement market is at that stage), and Yahoo! is putting together a nice service. The attention Yahoo! seems to putting on listening to their customers makes me think that they really want to get this right.

Just thought you might want to know about a funny typo in this post.

    Yahoo! Publisher Network beta problem

Shouldn’t it be Yahoo! Publisher Network beta program?

Whoops! Thanks for the heads up, John! That typo has been fixed now.

I always do program/problem and A/I (but I never replace an “a” with I, only an “A” for an “I”, when they’re being used as standalone words — not just the letter within words). I don’t know why, but I always mess those up. It’s like my hands want to do one thing and my brain is doing another.

In a funny story, I had a teacher in high school who said “I” like, “aaah.” Texas accent. “Aaah went to work today.” In a paper in that class, I did my A / I typo 3 times. I got called in to the disciplinary principal to have a “chat” about making fun of my teachers. Luckily, I was able to explain myself out of that one…

I was accepted into AdSense no problem but I still have not received a “yes” or “no” from Yahoo! Somewhat strange but I’ll continue to wait. I’d just like to see what their control panel looks like… The AdSense one is great and I haven’t had any problems with it.

Stephan: http://www.jennsense.com did a nice review, complete with screen shots. Scroll down a little bit on her front page and you’ll find it. I find the control panel to be quite similar to Google’s.

Well, I was finally accepted into the Yahoo! Publisher Network and I’ve started using the ads on my site but I am seeing the exact same ads that you have on yours. I don’t think Yahoo! has crawled yet which to me is very strange. Within a day of being accepted into Google my site was completely crawled and every page had somewhat relevant ads on it.

Yeah, I’ve been expecting the relevance to improve but it really hasn’t much yet. I get a lot of “Lunar calendar” ads. Yahoo must be tripping on the site name. I’m considering going back to Google until Yahoo clears up its AI.
