Lunar Adventures: exploring a little bit of everything

Google launches blog search
(alerted by Micro Persuasion) So much for Google buying Technorati — looks like they’ve got their own little blog search engine. The first thing I noticed is how blazingly fast it is, in stark contrast to Technorati, which, for all its merits, tends to be slower than molasses.
Sorting by date or relevance was handy, and the “Related blogs” section at the top tended to be right on the money. Adding RSS feeds of search terms is also very nice. When I sample searched my own name, though, it was too heavy on my LiveJournal (which I rarely update anymore). It did, however, point out this site in its related blogs section.
I would like to know more about how it is notified of new posts. During a search of “Dallas Cowboys,” many good blog posts were displayed — but when I sorted by date, my September 11th post about the Cowboys was nowhere to be found, despite “Dallas Cowboys” being both in the text of the post, in the category, and in the tags section (which are all included in RSS feeds). Searching for “NFL joy” (quotes not included in search), however, did result in Google displaying my post.
Conclusion? Needs improvement, but shows promise. No advertisements up yet, must be an early beta. I expect that to change quickly enough. The other blog search engines should worry — the big gorilla has officially entered their turf.

This is so cool… Very useful. It will be much easier to find blogs about specific things, since I’m used to only looking for blogs on community sites.
Malmal: Indeed… but also give http://www.technorati.com a try. It’s slower but also a great resource.
