Switching back to Google Adsense, for now
After using Yahoo! Publisher Network for over a month, I’ve decided to switch back to Google AdSense, at least for the time being.
Yahoo has several plusses: their customer support has been very attentive, their ad blocks are more visually appealing (to me), and their CPC has been wonderful. The big downside is their servers just don’t index my site as well. The ads tend to be less relevant.
As I post this, the front page ad from Google on my site is about the Dallas Cowboys, which is somewhat relevant. On Yahoo, it was about blogging and contextual advertising, also somewhat relevant. The upside for Google is in the single-post pages. The ones from Yahoo provided ads relevant to my site’s name, “Lunar Adventures,” such as lunar calendars. Not quite what I had in mind. With Google? Each page is relevant to that post. The post about the Nintendo Revolution controller has video game related ads. The post about blogging has blog related ads.
I’m hoping that this change results in an increased clickthrough rate. If the clickthrough rate increases, but the CPC decreases some, the overall net will probably be positive. Or so I hope. I’ll keep anyone interested updated.
