Something is "newsworthy" simply if it will capture the attention of a significant number of people, and celebrities with controversial opinions are a sure bet for that. If news service X doesn't report stuff like this, there will always be another news service Y that will, just because there's an economic niche there that is begging to be taken advantage of.</p> I think the media is more about selling news than reporting news.
